THE CHAOS OF LAWLESS LAWMAKERS

The atmosphere in a country, state, county, or city is heavily shaped by the conduct of the elected officials of the region. Over time we have seen a decline in the knowledge, skill, and professionalism of those who run for and are elected to political office. To mitigate the negative societal impacts of this dynamic, Ellison Helmsman draft and lobbies for adoption of The Politician’s Creed.

THE POLITICIAN’S CREED

As an elected official, I solemnly pledge:

  • To serve all constituents, regardless of political affiliation or voting record. My duty is to represent the entirety of the community, ensuring every voice is heard and every need is considered. I recognize that my mandate comes from the people as a whole, not just a portion thereof.

  • To commit to continuous education in political science, economics, and related fields. The complexities of governance demand a lifelong pursuit of knowledge. I will actively seek to deepen my understanding of policy, history, and current affairs to make informed and effective decisions.

  • To dedicate myself to ongoing training in public speaking and oration. Clear, concise, and persuasive communication is essential for effective leadership. I will strive to articulate my vision, engage in constructive dialogue, and foster understanding among diverse audiences.

  • To prioritize the creation of laws that empower freedom of action, rather than dictating specific behaviors. I believe in the principle of individual liberty and will work to establish a framework that allows citizens to pursue their own paths, within the bounds of a just and equitable society. My goal is to enable, not to control.

  • To maintain an open mind and a spirit of collaboration. I acknowledge that I do not possess all the answers and will actively seek input from experts, community members, and fellow officials. I will engage in respectful debate and strive to find common ground for the betterment of our society.

  • To always act with integrity and transparency. I will uphold the public trust by conducting myself ethically and responsibly. I will be accountable for my actions and decisions, and I will ensure that the processes of government are open and accessible to all.

  • To remember that public service is a privilege, not a right. I will approach my duties with humility and gratitude, recognizing the responsibility I bear to the people I serve.

  • To engage with fellow politicians and the public with a consistently respectful attitude. While I may disagree with the facts presented to support an opinion, I affirm the validity of the other person's right to hold and express that opinion. I will strive to listen actively, understand differing perspectives, and engage in civil discourse, even when faced with strong disagreement. I will separate the person from the ideas they present.
